S.A.T.S.
SOUTH AUSTRALIAN TRANSSEXUAL SUPPORT
A confidential support and information service established by Transsexuals
for Transsexuals who have permanently changed their gender role and/or
are in a recognised Gender Reassignment program.
SATS also provides information on all aspects of Gender Reassignment for
the General Community and people experiencing difficulty with their Gender
Identity.
The group is non-political, it is not run by a committee or hierarchy.
There are 2 co-ordinators who arrange meeting dates and venues and any
mail or notices required, there are no minutes kept of meetings, any such
documents are only in the form of general outline's or points to be followed
up.
There are no fees or dues required for membership and membership is restricted
to only those people who have, or are in the process of permanently changing
their gender role and are seeing psychiatrists and other medical professionals
for their condition (Gender Dysphoria or Gender Identity Disorder). These
people are deemed by the membership as "on a gender program"
and after a phone counselling session and a face to face session with one
of our councillors are allowed to join the group if the councillor and
members are satisfied all is well.
There are three councillors available to discuss personal problems on a
one to one basis. Meetings take the form of open forum discussions, small
group discussions and one to one sessions to help and support those who
require it, there is no time limit on membership (once a member always
a member) or 'need to attend' meetings. The group is there for mutual support
for each individual of the group when they need it.
