The Taxi Club
This is Sydney's mecca for raging trannies most nights of the week. It's reasonably small and comfy, with a couple of bars, bistro meals, lots of pokies, and a disco. It costs the princely sum of $5 to join for a year, and admission to the main part of the club is free. Entry to the disco, which is usually open from 12 midnight, is $5 for members, and $10 for visitors. There's typically a dozen or twenty trannies there of a Saturday night, some sex workers, most just out for a good time. This club also attracts people who'd like to meet trannies.

40 Flinders Street, Darlinghurst, 2010.

Heaven Nightclub
It's a really nice place, with a lounge area where you can get away from the noisy music (the bak bar). It attracts gays, lesbians, bi's, trannys, and even straight people (gasp!). Drag shows on Saturday nights.

Bunda Street, Canberra City, 2600
Phone 02 62576180

The Meridian Club
A very gay bar, run by the Canberra Queer Co-op. Sort of like a noisy(er), smoky(er) Heaven, but without the straights.

34 Mort Street,
Braddon,
Phone 02 62489966

Tilleys Cafe and Nightclub
Tilleys is a very friendly, cosmopolitan cafe on the north side of Canberra, mostly populated by the (slightly) less noisy queer population of Canberra. It’s also a popular venue for bands.

Wattle Street, Lyneham.
Phone 06 249 1543

Caffe Della Piazza
One of those places where you always seem to run into people you know (well, I do, anyway). Just a nice, quiet cafe in Canberra city that happens to attract lots of local queers. Maybe it’s because they make such yummy focacia. It’s a pity they serve their cappucinos in those annoying cups with the little handles you can’t put your finger through though. :)

19 Garema Place,
Canberra City.
